Functional Finance & Accounting Experience

    Financial Reporting & General Accounting
  • Hands on and supervisory corporate controllership experience in $1B regional operation, developing regional finance infrastructure, identifying and stopping fraudulent activity, reducing A/P processing time by 300%, and supporting ten office locations and eight key channels.
  • Coordinated regional effort for overseas outsourcing initiative for A/P related processing and systems, including a comprehensive electronic procure to pay purchase order module.
  • Established financing procedures for international production efforts in Canada, Puerto Rico, and the U.K., and international travel for reality based programming as needed.
  • Worked with Tax, marketing and operations groups to establish an international roadmap for online virtual world expansion into eight key countries within Europe, the Pacific Rim, and South America. This included assessment of VAT/GST and pricing implications, operational procedures for payment gateway and cash collections, and accounting and foreign exchange treatment.
  • Created and implemented national programs for Petty Cash tracking and reporting, Purchasing Cards, E-Fund Cards, and Production Freelance Payroll direct deposit.
  • Directed monthly and year-end closing process for a variety of companies, assuring the accuracy of data and integrity of reporting.
  • Responsible for internal and external reporting including monthly financial review packages and executive summaries for Executive/Management team.
  • Coordinated and supported key corporate accounting matters for production television division, including network billings and collections, cash applications, internal controls and reconciliations, coordination and settlement of network production audits, and support for production audit efforts.
  • Oversaw financial reporting for Studio Television Group including Network and Domestic programs, International Channels, UPN affiliated stations, and investments in unconsolidated subsidiaries.
  • Prepared and reviewed monthly Flash, quarterly Balance Sheet Review, Supplemental filings, and Balance Sheet and P&L forecast for Television Studio.
  • Oversaw the analysis and reconciliation of the monthly P&L and Balance Sheet position for all television products, including variances to estimate and budget.
  • Participated in and lead post merger accounting integrations for a number of acquisitions for Paramount Pictures and MTVN Networks, including working with the accounting/ financial personnel from the acquired companies to ensure a smooth transition to the acquiring company's internal financial reporting requirements.
  • Managed post acquisition employee stock option earn-out programs, mirroring pre-acquisition stock option plans with an employee incentive program. Although these plans were not subject to SFAS 123R (as existing options were no longer valid), am familiar with these requirements.
  • Lead Purchase accounting efforts for strategic acquisitions, including balance sheet and goodwill valuation, purchase price adjustments, intangible asset valuation, and goodwill amortization.
  • Prepared supporting analysis and disclosures for SEC Forms 10-Q and 10-K, including footnote disclosures supporting schedules and MD&A, for the Television division of Paramount Pictures.
  • Lead and participated in the local statutory audits of international based production and sales offices for television production and digital operations in Canada, Puerto Rico, and Hong Kong. Provided various reports and schedules, financial analyses, account reconciliations and all necessary support. Researched and explained variances. Fielded and responded to all audit questions and requests from the local audit teams.
  • Lead efforts to improve operational efficiencies wherever possible, including the replacement of rental equipment with capital, centralized A/P processing, personnel restructuring, consolidation of vendors, and collection of approximately $8 million in past due A/R.
    Financial Planning & Analysis
  • Prepared and presented the annual operating plan and monthly forecasts in accordance with Company objectives for a variety of companies and groups, including a television production studio, online digital gaming companies, and regional headquarter offices for a large entertainment studio. Reviewed results, analyzed and explained major variances and made recommendations for corrective actions, as needed.
  • Participated in and created, in conjunction with department heads, custom reporting packages and departmental metrics for online digital gaming companies, to better analyze business operations and profitability.
  • Directly involved in strategic long range planning and modeling for television studio and online digital companies, including new models, projections, business analysis and accounting treatment.
    M&A Analysis and Post Acquisition Finance/Accounting Integration
  • Finance lead for due diligence and integration of seven strategic digital acquisitions, valued at $800 million.
  • Financial audit and analysis - Evaluated adequacy of financial reporting, internal controls, net financial position, potential liabilities, and integration issues.
  • Lead purchase accounting efforts, including the integration of financial packages, balance sheet and goodwill valuation, purchase price adjustment, and goodwill amortization.
  • Lead and coordinated operational restructure and new business support with all key areas, including outside financial audit, tax, legal, human resources, and senior management.
  • Assisted with the post acquisition valuation of intangible assets, adjusting goodwill as needed and evaluating for impairment.

  • Performed post acquisition financial processes such as the consolidation of accounting policies and procedures, merger of financial accounting systems (including mapping of the chart of accounts) and monthly closing procedures and reporting.
    Financial Systems Integration
  • Implemented new royalty tracking system for game and film developer participations of online gaming and entertainment digital companies, automating royalty statements and decreasing processing time by 200%.
  • Key task force member and regional finance lead for financial systems conversion from JD Edwards to Enterprise One, which included a new chart of accounts, production cost management and reporting tools, A/P and general ledger processes, and a new financial budgeting and reporting data warehouse package.
  • Key task force member and regional finance lead for implementing new online T&E processing and reporting system, replacing both manual excel T&E processes and existing online T&E tools.
  • Created new Cognos reporting package and tools for Television Division of a major studio, designed to replace existing manual excel reporting processes.
    Internal Controls & Process Engineering
  • Actively participated in and lead several business process improvement (BPI) projects for the regional offices of a large entertainment company, including a New Supplier/ Vendor process, enhancement of the general Purchasing process, Payroll process improvements and streamlining of Accounts Payable processes.
  • Responsible for effectively developing, implementing, communicating and training on financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance in accordance with Company objectives and SOX.
  • Directly responsible for developing and implementing local policies and procedures in accordance with U.S. Corporate guidelines and SOX, including the roll out of an online production operating policies and procedural intranet tool, giving production teams easy access to policies, contracts and form templates.
  • Developed month-end, quarter-end and year-end close checklists for the regional finance office of a large entertainment company, to ensure that adequate controls were in place and that stringent timelines were met for corporate processing and reporting requirements.
  • Developed A/P and Payroll audit policies, checklists and guidelines for compliance with SOX requirements, and to streamline payment processes with production teams.
  • Created new tracking system for Petty Cash advances and reconciliations for a large entertainment company, improving visibility and control for over $12M in annual petty cash spend on a national level, and eliminating future necessary headcount.
  • Dramatically improved reporting and reconciliation procedures for online credit card receipts for online digital gaming companies, reducing reporting times by 500% and providing reconciling procedures for otherwise un-reconciled items.
  • Created international reporting and tracking processes for virtual items sales for online gaming company, including GAAP compliance, and local foreign government tax withholding and reporting processes for five international countries/regions, including Australia, Canada, Europe, Hong Kong and Singapore.
    Financial Modeling
  • Experience building, improving and refining budget and forecast models for television production studio and online gaming companies.
  • Worked closely with financial planning and modeling department of television studio to assist in analyzing financial performance of television productions, by title, including evaluation of lifetime revenue and cost assumptions, GAAP compliance, and necessary write-offs.
